North Prairie Farmers’ market got its start on Aug. 18, 2007 in the Parker Hotel parking lot in downtown Minot. The market opened with four vendors, three of them, including market founders Marvin and Ilene Baker, coming from a former Carpio market, and one who came from Sawyer. All four initial vendors marketed garden produce and the Bakers held market manager posistions for the first 10 years of the market’s existence.

North Prairie outgrew the Parker that first summer and was moved to the Re-Store parking lot in 2008. It remained there through 2009 and because it outgrew that parking lot had to be moved again. So, in 2010, it crossed the street to its present location in the Trinity West parking lot. As the market continued to grow, diversity in vendors became apparent. Everything from maple syrup to homemade dog food was encouraged to draw larger crowds to the market.

In 2024, the market was asked by Trinity officials to test a new site, the parking lot at the new hospital in southwest Minot. But instead of moving, a market day was added. Thus, a Tuesday afternoon, North Prairie Farmers’ Market started in August 2024 with the Saturday market remaining downtown.
